Clinical Mental Health Intern (Children’s Therapy & Targeted Groups)

Location: Washington DC 
Position Type: Internship (Part-Time/Full-Time)

Beyond Infinity LLC  is a private mental health practice dedicated to providing compassionate and specialized care for children, adolescents, and families. Our approach integrates CBT, DBT, mindfulness, and play therapy to support emotional regulation, social skills, and overall mental well-being. We also offer targeted group therapy programs designed to help children and teens navigate anxiety, stress, self-esteem challenges, and other mental health concerns in a supportive group setting.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Clinical Mental Health Intern to work alongside our licensed therapists in providing individual and group therapy for children and adolescents. This internship is ideal for students pursuing a Master’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or a related field who are passionate about working with young clients in a supportive, hands-on learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing individual therapy sessions for children and adolescents under supervision.
  • Co-facilitate targeted group therapy programs focusing on emotional regulation, self-esteem, anxiety, social skills, and other topics.
  • Observe and engage in play therapy, CBT, DBT, and mindfulness-based interventions tailored for children.
  • Conduct intake assessments and assist in developing treatment plans.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential clinical documentation in compliance with ethical and legal guidelines.
  • Participate in case consultations, supervision meetings, and team collaboration to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Assist in parent education and support as needed.
  • Stay updated on best practices and research related to child and adolescent mental health.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Master’s program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in working with children, adolescents, and families.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn play therapy, CBT, DBT, and mindfulness techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a child-friendly, compassionate approach.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards.
  • Experience in group therapy, school-based settings, or working with neurodivergent populations is a plus.
