Our Second Year Social Work Intern position pays $18.00 per hour for, Outreach, Counseling and Intake for low-income youth and their familiesThis also includes requests for foster youth placement, shelter for runaways and generally youth who may need counseling or support services. Intake includes one-night-a-week on call. On-call intake is paid at double-time pay for active contact. The following is an estimation of the total number of hours, you may schedule as a (negotiable) 20-hour week.

Phase I will emphasize Community Outreach to engage referral from the schools with assistance from the Contra Costa County Office of Education as well as the Contra Costa Employment and Human Services Department (Social Services). This is expected to involve as much as 19% of activities, but may expand depending on the success in recruiting youth for services.  Phase II will be Mental Health Counseling and/or referral to specialized services.  Presently we think Counseling will comprise 64% of activities, but this depends on the number of youth encountered.  We expect 18% time is for training & supervision.  Interns should expect to be in our offices and/or in face-to-face counseling for 10 hours a week.

All interns will complete preliminary training, using the PowerDMS archive, Zoom and face-to-face instruction. On-Call credits 10 minutes for each hour available for Telephone Intake. Only after Interns understand this material are they assigned and supervised to provide telephone intake – one night a week. Training includes Motivational Interviewing and experience providing support in a crisis, as well as follow-up support for homeless runaways. We will meet virtually, use CallHub in Nation Builder (a CRM) and social media to prepare for training and complete application requirements. We assume that there will be changes in this description as we have more information about whether the objectives of the program are being met. Enrollment in a Master's in Social Work program is required. We prefer Spanish speaking.
