Position: Crisis Stabilization Worker/Counselor, QMHP - A/C.
Second Chances Comprehensive Services of Seaside Healthcare believes that children and adolescents are best served through preserving the family system. SCCS serves ages 5 thru adults age 65 who demonstrate a clinical necessity arising from conditions due to mental disorders, substance abuse, behavioral issues, or emotional illnesses.

Crisis Response Counselors play a pivotal role in the developing a quality based, person centered program for children, adolescents & adults. Agencies rely heavily on the clinical and ethical decisions of mental health counselors to provide insight into the care of the person served. Second Chances Comprehensive Services prides itself on the developing a strengths-based approach in terms of therapeutic treatment, clinical therapy, and program implementation.
We currently have an opening for a Community – Based Crisis Response Counselor to provide crisis stabilization services to adults, adolescents and children who are at imminent risk of hospitalization and out of home placement in our Chesterfield Virginia location. Crisis Stabilization Services are provided on a short term basis as determined at the time of the assessment not to exceed 15 days at a time and typically occur from 4-10 hours per day. In addition to direct client care, counselors are responsible for coordinating services according to clients’ treatment plans, facilitating therapeutic group activities, engaging families in crisis intervention and stabilization services to provide complete wrap-around services, and facilitating admissions and discharges from the program.

Position Qualifications:

  • Candidate should posses a Masters Degree in a human services field
  • Candidate should have 3-5 years clinical experience
  • Candidate must have a QMHP A/C certification with the Board of Counseling
  • LMHP R/S are highly encouraged to apply as this role can aid in the completion of supervision hours to become licensed.
  • Must successfully complete CPR, First Aid and TOVA behavioral management training. Candidate must meet eligibility for employment through successful criminal and central registry check

Position Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of counseling skills and techniques, mental health services, mental health agencies and mental health diagnosis.
  • Conduct counseling and treatment interventions for clients enrolled in crisis stabilization program.
  • Develop a therapeutic relationship with clients that will encourage response in treatment.
  • Provide intensive 1:1 therapeutic and behavioral support services to clients experiencing a crisis episode, placing the client at risk for hospitalization, homelessness, and/or lose of current placement.
  • Link client/s to necessary outpatient treatment providers to include; outpatient counseling,outpatient medication management, group counseling, etc.
  • Implement safety plans based on client need to ensure safety in current environment.
  • Provide brief clinical assessment to high risk clients and trigger next step referrals when necessary.
  • Provide 24-hour emergency response as needed.

Job Type: Contract

Salary: $22.00 - $30.00 per hour
