General Responsibilities of a School Counselor Intern:

  • Program Development: Assist in creating and maintaining effective school counseling programs that align with the school's mission and goals, ensuring they meet academic, career, and personal/social development needs of all students.

  • Student Support: Provide individual and group counseling sessions to address students' academic, personal, and social challenges.

  • Classroom Guidance: Conduct classroom activities that promote responsible decision-making, positive relationships, social awareness, self-awareness, and emotional management.

  • Career Exploration: Introduce students to career exploration activities and interest assessments to help them understand potential future paths.

  • Data Analysis: Review and analyze school data to evaluate the effectiveness of counseling programs and interventions.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, parents, and community members to support student success and well-being.

  • Crisis Management: Assist in managing and responding to school crises, providing necessary support to affected students.

  • Special Needs Identification: Participate in identifying students with special needs and collaborate on developing appropriate interventions or referrals.

  • Referrals: Connect students and families with appropriate school or community resources when additional support is needed.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: Enrollment in a master's program in school counseling or a related field, with eligibility for relevant certifications upon completion.

  • Communication Skills: Strong ability to interact effectively with students, parents, staff, and community members.

  • Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student records and personal information.
