Description

What is an internship?

An internship is a hands-on learning opportunity that allows students, recent graduates, or career changers to gain practical experience in a specific field. During an internship, individuals work full- or part-time, typically performing entry-level tasks while also engaging in skill development activities designed to enhance their knowledge and abilities within the industry. We have three different internships – a Fall semester internship, a Spring semester internship, and a Summer PIVOT internship.

Our internships are designed for current college students and recent graduates. As a nonprofit, Charlotte Behavioral Health Care greatly values the contributions of our interns, who play a vital role in advancing key initiatives and projects while also supporting staff with a variety of tasks. Interns have the opportunity to engage in meaningful work, gain valuable experience in the nonprofit sector, and contribute to transforming the culture surrounding mental health. Our programs include (but certainly are not limited to) mental-health/substance use/co-occuring disorders, inpatient/outpatient/community based setting, all age groups, individual or group work, and more.

Expected Time Commitment for the Spring and Fall Semester Internships

  • Welcome/orientation week. The first week of placement will be five consecutive eight-hour days (8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) for orientation/training which will take place the second week of the month the internship starts.
  • Interns are expected to commit a minimum of eight hours per week and at least one weekday. Days and time constraints will be based on different program needs/requirements.
  • All placements are expected to be for two consecutive semesters.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and will close on May 1st for a Fall semester start or October 1st for a Spring semester start (or earlier if all positions are filled).
