Counseling/Psychotherapy Internship Openings

Family Service Madison | Madison, WI, United States

Posted Date 2/27/2025
Description

Family Service Madison (FSM) is now accepting student resumes for the 2025-2026 academic-year practicum internship. We welcome applications from students who meet the placement criteria and are interested in a clinical internship at our outpatient mental health clinic.

Family Service Madison is offering a full-time (20 hours per week) master’s level internship with diverse opportunities across multiple programs, including:

  • Counseling and Psychotherapy Services (CAPS): An outpatient mental health clinic where interns provide therapy to individual clients—adults and/or children—facing various mental health challenges. Interns also co-facilitate groups and occasionally participate in co-therapy sessions with experienced clinicians specializing in child trauma, couples, and family therapy.
  • Steps to Success (STS): A middle school day treatment program supporting children with mental health and behavioral issues that hinder their ability to thrive in a traditional school setting. Interns provide individual counseling and lead structured, experiential therapy groups.
  • Strong Families Initiative (SFI): An in-home parenting program where interns work as part of a parent support specialist team, providing parent education, in-home coaching, and support for families involved with child protective services.

This internship offers valuable hands-on experience in multiple settings, preparing students for clinical practice in a variety of mental health fields. FSM offers a hybrid model of in-office, in-home, and telehealth services, with placements tailored to intern interests and program needs. Interns receive weekly individual and group supervision and have access to in-house and Wisconsin Association of Family and Children’s Agencies (WAFCA) trainings.

Placement Criteria includes enrollment in a master's level program in Guidance and Counseling, Marriage and Family, Art Therapy or Social Work. Students must have completed at least one year of academic work.

We ask that all students interested in an internship at Family Service Madison forward a letter of interest and a resume that outlines their work and school experience to: Kelly Janes, Email: kellyj@fsmad.org

Interviews will be held the week of March 17th, 2025. Please feel free to contact Kelly Janes directly with any questions at 608-316-1131 or kellyj@fsmad.org.
